June Featured Project
Loop 1604 Retail Center
San Antonio, Texas
This month's featured project is a 3d rendering for the preliminary deisgn of an unbuilt retail center that was to be located near Stone Oak on Loop 1604 in San Antonio, Texas. The project would have consisted of a tilt wall strucutre with lots of store front glass, entry accent elements and a landmark glass tower at the front corner of the building. This tower would have served as signage during the day and a lighted feature at night drawing potential shoppers to the center as they drove along the highway.
The building was planned for approximately 16,000 s.f. of leasable area with a parapet wall and low sloped roof. Bay depth of the project was a total of seventy (70) feet. No additional design work was done on the project before this scheme was abandoned but I liked the initial design and wanted to take this opportunity to show some of our unbuilt work and the potential of a quick study model. We have been working with the Sketchup program used to generate this model for many years and have found it to be a great design tool when working on our projects.

Focus on Current Projects
Projects that we are currently working on in the office include mixed use projects in Cibolo and San Marcos, TX, a mexican restuarant on Blanco Road called Anita's Cocina, and a new location for Lenny's Sandwich Shop, all in San Antonio. We are also doing the Cotton Crossing office complex and the Village at Hunters Creek office in New Braunfels, a dental office in Bulverde for Dr. Scott Stafford and an office warehouse project in the Northlake Business Park in Universal City. We are also working on a Veterinary Clinic for the Cibolo Canyons Veterinary Hospital as well as the Lake Olympia Animal Hospital in Houston.
In addition we are have a number of space planning projects, veterinary facilities, dental offices, restaurant projects, offices and office warehouse facilities, as well as multiple locations for Outtakes Quick Cuisine that are in different stages of development.
Projects currently under construction include an office facilities for the The Boy Scouts and the San Antonio Apartment Association, a new location for EZ's Brick Oven and Grill, the Emerald Rainbow Childrens play place in Bulverde, Medical offices for the Dermatology Associates of San Antonio in Live Oak, a Cardiology Office for Dr. Gerald Sioco, Bill Miller Bar-B-Q restaurants, the VCA Oak Hills Animal Hospital and Dental offices for Dr. Steve Wood and Dr. Janice Weinman.
Focus on Employees
Linda Hirt has been with Stephen J. Kramer Archtiecture + Design, Inc. for the past eight years in the position of Secretary/Bookkeeper. She is our office manager in addition to specializing in providing permitting services for the firm and it's clients as well as for buiders, owners and developers. Linda's permitting services have been steadily expanding as she gains exertise and familiarity with the procedures and builds relationships with city staff.
Fabiola Quiroz, our receptionist, is our initial contact with clietns and is taking on an increasing role assisting Linda with office administration, billings, payroll and filing.
Erick Rios is our architectural Intern at the firm and has been training and gaining experience toward his goal of becoming a licensed architect while assisting on a variety of architectural projects. Erick is currently taking architectural classes toward the completion of his Masters Degree in Architecture.
Sonia Garcia Paschall has been hired as our firm's interior designer. Sonia graduated with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from UT Austin and a Masters in Fine Arts from Rutgers University. She is currently working on interior design as well as furniture selection on many of our medical, vetereninary, dental and commercial office projects.
Andy Immroth, our project architect in the Houston area is now the second licensed architect in the Firm. He is currently working on various Veterinary projects, Dental offices and an office warehouse project in the Houston area . Andy is currentlly studying and working to become a LEED certified professional. Once he completes this process he will be the first in our firm to achieve this and will be promoting sustainability in our future work.
Brian Wiggins is a project manager for Stephen J. Kramer Architecture + Design Inc. in our San Antonio office. Brian handles a number of our clinic projects, commercial offices, restaurant and space planning projects. He is currently working on Medical, commercial office, space planning and restaurant projects for Bill Miller Bar-B-Q. Congratulations to Brian and his family on the birth of Caroline Adelaide on March 30, 2008!
Stephen J. Kramer is the owner and founder of Stephen J. Kramer Architecture + Design, Inc. Steve graduated from MacArthur High School in San Antonio and from Texas Tech University in Lubbock with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree. After working for 5 years at other architectural firms Steve formed Stephen J. Kramer Architecture + Design, Inc. in April of 1988. From it's beginnings at the kitchen table of the Kramer home and one client the firm has grown over the 17 years it has been in business to 6 employees in two offices, one in Houston and our main office in our new building in San Antonio. We currently specialize in commercial, retail, medical, dental, veterinary and restaurant projects but also do a wide variety of work including a small amount of custom residential projects. We currently work on over 100 projects annually and have completed thousands of projects in the many years we have been in business.
